Bach: Cantata No. 132 “Bereitet die Wege, bereitte die Bahn” / Gustav Leonhardt

This cantata from the Weimar period is based on a libretto by Salomon Franck. The first piece, “Bereitet die Wege, bereitte die Bahn,” is a soprano aria with a flowing melody in 6/8 time, accompanied by oboe, string orchestra, and basso continuo. Sebastian Hennig of the Hanover Boys Choir (Knabenchor Hannover) sings beautifully. Following the tenor recitative and arioso, the bass aria “Wer bist du Frage dein Gewissen” is sung accompanied by the a leaping bass passage (cello). Following the alto recitative with string accompaniment, the alto aria “Christi Glieder, ach bedenket” is sung with the beautiful violin obbligato. The score for the final chorale “Ertöt uns durch deine Güte” is lost, but the closing chorale “Ihr, die ihr euch von Christo nennet” from BWV 164 transposed to A major is used, acording customary. #baroque #bach #cantata #片山俊幸
