Bach: Cantata No. 12 “Weinen, Klagen, Sorgen, Zagen” / Gustav Leonhardt.

Bach: Cantata No. 12 “Weinen, Klagen, Sorgen, Zagen” / Gustav Leonhardt.
Cantata from Bach’s Weimar period. The first piece “Sinfonia” is a luscious piece in which an ornamented oboe solo melody accompanied by a string ensemble with a second viola and the basso continuo. The second piece, “Weinen, Klagen, Sorgen, Zagen” is a chorus in da capo form with repeated chromatic basso ostinato. After the alto recitative, the fourth piece is the alto aria “Kreuz und Kronen sind verbunden”. The oboe’s obbligato is beautiful in this da capo aria. This was followed by the bass aria “Ich folge Christo nach”. The violins I and II played obbligato, and the bass plays a walking bass throughout. The last aria was “Sei Getreu” by tenor. The trumpet plays the chorale melody from Johann Cruger’s “Jesu, meine Freude” over the tenor’s melody. The chorale “Was Gott tut, das ist wohlgetan” closes the Cantata. #baroque #bach #cantata #片山俊幸
