Bach: “Wedding Cantata” / Emma Kirkby, Christopher Hogwood
This is one of Emma Kirkby’s best recordings. She is a cantata singer and English consort singer, never an opera singer. I am sure all of her fans will agree with that. Elizabethan lute songs, Handel’s cantatas and oratorios, and Bach are her strongest repertoire. Of her several recordings of Bach cantatas, this CD shines with its charming selection of which two “Wedding Cantatas” are interspersed with three arias, “Bist du bei mir”, “Gedenke doch, mein Geist zurücke” and “Schlummert ein, ihr matten Augen (Ich habe genug)”.
