Bach: Cantata No. 54 “Widerstehe doch der Sünde” / Gustav Leonhardt
This is a solo cantata for alto consisting of three movements. In the first aria “Widerstehe doch der Sünde,” on the low repetitive tone form, which is filled with a series of dissonant changes that build up the atmosphere and the alto joins in at last. It is extremely Bach-like style heartwarming music. The recitative is followed by the aria “Wer Sünde tut, der ist vom Teufel”. The strings begin to play the fugue theme, and the alto begins to sing after the bass presents the theme. From there, the theme is presented several times in various tonalities, including a stretta, and the piece heads toward the conclusion with a melody by the alto soloist. #baroque #bach #cantata #片山俊幸
