Bach: Six Trio Sonatas / Robert King: The King’s Consort
For many instrumentalists, Bach’s chamber music is by no means in enough supply. The variety of instruments is limited: violin, flute, cello, viola da gamba, and so on. It is natural that many of the world’s performers have come up with the idea of arranging Bach’s other pieces to camber musics. The six organ trios are the most perfect for such arrangements. One recalls as old example an arrangement by Jean-Pierre Rampal and Veyron Lacroix on flute and harpsichord. The CD “German Chamber Music” by the Kuijken Ensemble includes the first organ trio, and is also a masterpiece. In this case the original E-flat major was changed to G major, the key of the flute. The Kings Consort, which is mentioned in the title, has recorded all of Bach’s trio sonatas in their original key. Therefore, the instrumentation is also varied, with violins, violas, oboes, and oboe d’amore. #baroque #bach #片山俊幸
