Bach: Cantata No. 29 “Wir danken dir Gott wir danken dir” / Nikolaus Harnoncourt
This is a cantata with a rich instrumentation of three trumpets, timpani, two oboes, string orchestra, organ obbligato and basso continuo. After a festive sinfonia, the a magnificent chorus fugue “Wir danken dir Gott wir danken dir” begins. This moving chorus fugue is later adapted for the B minor Mass “Gratias Agimus Tibi” and “Dona Nobis Pacem”. The first aria has a tenor and a violin obbligato. After the bass recitative, the soprano aria witch is in the siciliano rhythm has the oboe always playing in unison. This is followed by the alto recitative and aria.
