Bach: Cantata No. 25 “Es ist nichts Gesundes an meinem Leibe” / Nikolaus Harnoncourt

Bach: Cantata No. 25 “Es ist nichts Gesundes an meinem Leibe” / Nikolaus Harnoncourt

The instrumentation consists of three recorders, cornet, three trombones of various sizes, two oboes, string ensemble and basso continuo. In the opening chorale fantasy, the chorale melody “Herzlich tut mich verlangen” first appears in the basso continuo. The chorus enters as a fugue with a double theme. The chorale is then overlaid as an independent four-part wind section. The chorale melody is played by cornet and three recorders in octave unison. It is truly elaborate, profound, and moving music. The tenor recitative was followed by the bass aria “Ach, wo hol ich Armer Rat?”. Is it just me or does this aria sound somewhat like the aria “Madchen, Die Von Harten Sinnen” from a coffee cantata? The soprano recitative was followed by the delightful soprano aria “Öffne meinen schlechten Liedern”. The instrumental section is divided into three recorders and string section with oboes. The piece is like a bright minuet. The piece ends with the chorale “Ich will alle meine Tage” in a sunny atmosphere. #baroque #bach #cantata #片山俊幸 https://excelkobo.net/bachwerke/archive/BWV0025.pdf
